Brenda Maurer Dannewitz

NATIONAL MUSIC ADVISER

Brenda Maurer Dannewitz (Clearwater, Florida) was initiated into the Sigma Chapter of Delta Omicron at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL in December of 1974. After moving to Florida she was involved in the St. Petersburg, FL alumnae chapter for many years serving as President. She became the Xi Province President for Florida and has spent many years and hours working with the Alpha Phi chapter at Florida Southern College, helping with activities and playing the piano for initiations. She was awarded the Province President of the Year in 2009 and was awarded the Star of DO by the Board of Directors for her continuing service to DO, in 2012 at the Triennial Conference. She served as the Music Director for the Triennial Conference in 2012 and continues to volunteer for DO.

She has been a music educator for 38 years, the last 31 at Osceola Middle School in Seminole, Florida teaching chorus and, this year, added guitar to her resume. Her students participate in Florida Vocal Association activities and have been Allstate Chorus members, All County Chorus members, All County Guitar Ensemble members. They have performed in the community and at Disney World and Universal Studios. She was honored with being asked to be the Pinellas All County Elementary Chorus Conductor in 2009.

She was pianist, organist, handbell choir member and choir director for Feather Sound Community church for many years and pianist at The Island Chapel in Tierra Verde for three years. She continues to substitute at churches when needed and accompanies many schools and students.  She was Florida Vocal Association District 9 Coordinator and Chairman, is a member of the Pinellas County Music Educators Association, serving as secretary, treasurer and president. She received the Pinellas County Secondary Music Teacher of the Year award in 2002. She was honored as one of the top 20 Teachers for Pinellas County Schools in 1996.   Brenda received a 25 Year Recognition Award in 2002 from the Florida Music Educators Association also receiving an Attendance Award for our school with her colleagues.

Brenda is also a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and is currently involved in her alumnae association serving as treasurer, but has been secretary, president and Panhellenic representative and president, receiving the St. Petersburg Alumnae Panhellenic Woman of the Year award in 2012.

Brenda has two children. Charlie, who is married with two sons and is golf professional and Ashley, who is married and is a professional opera singer.
